About the owner of this website

My name is Jessica. I also own Green Web Design & Internet Consulting in Wisconsin. I have a lot of clients who are small local businesses, equipment and scrap dealers, and people who make unique items like food, clothing, and jewelry. Most did not know where or how to advertise their new website and had a small (or nonexistent) advertising budget to start with. My father already ran a free classifieds site, AdvertiseWisconsin.com, but I have many clients in other states too.

After a LOT of very hard work, trial, and error, I eventually owned a pretty successful network of free classifieds sites in several different states, and had plans to make more. I ran these sites for several years until it got to be too much work to maintain and update them all separately. In November 2005, I bought the domain name 50statesclassifieds.com and began to create this website. It became popular with shoppers, sellers, and the search engines very quickly.

But that kind of success comes with pitfalls too. I was waking up every morning to find that there were at least 300 “bad ads” by SPAMMERS (sometimes as many as 700 ads in an 8 hour period). The website and our mail servers were constantly under attack from spammers and scammers not only from the US, but also from other countries.

I didn't want my website to turn into a dumping ground for spammers and scammers like most of the other free classifieds websites out there. I started spending more and more time deleting bad ads. Most of them are easy to spot, but some required research because something "just didn't sound right". I became an expert on all of the different varieties of 419 and other scams so that I could recognize and delete them quickly. The site was getting very expensive to run because all of those spammers took up alot of bandwidth. Web hosting became a nightmare. I eventually decided that by charging a minimal fee for each ad, I could still offer a great value to users, while eliminating 99.9% of the headaches and bandwidth costs. Spammers just are not willing to pay for anything.

With the easy to use WYSIWYG ad editor, you can post a really fabulous ad with full color, and even HTML if you desire - no programming knowledge needed. Some people even use their ads and featured storefronts as an alternative to getting their own website, which would cost alot more. Because you can add PayPal 'buy it now" buttons to your ads, people can pay you for your product directly through your ad - something very few classifieds sites offer.
