"Rockwell American Dream" a tribute to the optimistic sprit of America, is the first collector's plate series ever issued with the full endorsement and sponsorship of the Norman Rockwell Family Trust. There are 8 plates in this edition, made from 1985 to 1987 by the Edwin M Knowles China Company. That measure 8-1/2 inch diameter. All plates boxed with certificate of authenticity. I have 2 complete sets.
First plate "A Young Girl's Dream". In a bus station somewhere in the heart of the country, a young girl sits alone. The ticket that will launch her journey is tucked safely away in her handbag; the only worldly she takes along are folded into a single shabby case and tidy valise. She has traveled before, but no trip meant this much. Today she is the Dreamer pursuing her dream. First painted 1930.
Second plate " A Couple's Commitment". Sitting side by side on the couch the attractive young couple is absorbed in what must seem the most important task in the world selecting the perfect diamond as a shining symbol of their love. First painted 1925.
Third Plate " A Family Full Measure". The gray-haired woman, her face in sharp, full profile facing into the only visible light source, we surmise that the young woman has just returned from the grocery, from which she spills a handful of raisins. Only her mother's skill will later turn them into raisin cookies the favorite family treat. First painted 1926
Fourth plate "A mothers Welcome". Dressed carefully in white, this young mother has followed her dream to the railroad station to greet an improbable train. Her face is lit with a fierce hope; her tension draws her hands up into an involuntary prayer. As we follow her gaze, we may be tempted to pray with her that she will find her hearts fondest hope at the far end of the platform. First painted 1951.
Fifth plate "A Young Man's Dream". Evening quickly turns to night as a young man pores over his studies. A single kerosene lamp is all the illuminates his books, but it doesn't seem to matter-in the humble rooming house where the student lives, the light of learning burns brightly. First painted 1925.
Sixth plate "The Musician's Magic". The master musician plays to an audience of one, but he gives a performance that would win applause at Carnegie Hall. His music is everything to him; he dreams only of playing the piece perfectly, and doesn't even notice the spellbound young lady who pauses in her cleaning to listen. First painted 1924.
Seventh plate "An Orphan's Hope". Cling to the sister's black habit, the young orphan boy waits anxiously for a couple to take him home and raise him as part of their family. The flush in his face and the longing in his eyes tell us that he has dreamt of nothing else his entire young life. Painted first 1951 cover Good Housekeeping.
Eighth plate " Today they celebrate their Golden wedding anniversary. And what a handsome couple they make: the husbands, dignity in his top hat and tails; his wife, in her festive spring bonnet, a charmer still. When they exchanged their vows fifty years ago, this day must have seemed an impossible distant dream. First painted 1922
