New scam alert: free stuff that’s too good to be true
Scam alert: this week I have had a huge influx of new scams I haven’t seen before. I almost fell for this one, until I got 800 more ads just like it! Beware of ads that resemble the following text: “My son was in the military and was killed. I have his car/laptop/beloved pet/coin collection/etc and I have no use for it so I will donate it to a random person who calls/emails me”. These scammers are trying to collect personal information about people, that much is a given. Beyond that, i’m not sure what their scam is exactly – maybe sympathy because they are pretending to have a child killed in the line of duty? Maybe they talk you into paying shipping for the fake car? I don’t know. But if you see a variation of this new scam, don’t fall for it! Oh, and several of the ad posters said their son was killed in “Irak” - although anyone can make a spelling error, there are certain things that should be a huge red flag if spelled wrong! If their son had actually died there, they’d almost certainly know how to spell the country’s name… especially since it’s only 4 letters long…
